Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the U.S. ambassador to Lebanon are set to meet Tuesday with the Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors in Washington for discussions, a State Department official said Monday.
The high-level talks would mark the first such meeting between Israel and Lebanon since 1993, the official said.
Tensions in the region have escalated in recent weeks. In early March, Hezbollah launched missile attacks on Israel with backing from Iran following U.S. and Israeli strikes on the Islamic Republic on Feb. 28.
The official also confirmed that State Department Counselor Michael Needham will attend the discussions.
