BOKKOS, OUR PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU 😭
My beloved brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today, my heart is heavy. My eyes are filled with tears. My spirit groans within me as I think about the pain, the bloodshed, and the suffering of innocent Christians in our communities.
How many more graves must we dig before the world hears our cries?
How many more mothers must bury their children before someone speaks?
How many more fathers must be slaughtered in their own homes before our leaders pay attention?
Reports from Bokkos have once again left families broken and communities devastated. Twenty-two precious lives were reportedly cut short. Twenty-two human beings created in the image of God. Twenty-two people with names, families, dreams, and futures.
Yet where are the loud voices?
Where are the emergency meetings?
Where are the headlines that should shake the conscience of the nation?
Why does it seem that when Christians are killed in our villages, the world moves on as though nothing happened?
I cannot stop thinking about the mothers who waited through the night for sons who would never return.
I cannot stop thinking about the children who woke up asking, "Where is Daddy?" not knowing that their father would never walk through that door again.
I cannot stop thinking about the elderly parents who depended on their children, only to receive the terrible news that they had been taken away by violence.
These are not statistics.
These are human beings.
These are families.
These are our brothers and sisters.
As a minister of the Gospel, I have stood beside grieving families. I have seen tears that words cannot describe. I have watched mothers collapse in sorrow. I have listened to children cry for parents who will never answer again.
And every time I witness such pain, one question echoes in my heart:
Lord, how long?
The Bible says in Psalm 34:18:
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
Today, the people of Bokkos are brokenhearted.
Widows are brokenhearted.
Orphans are brokenhearted.
Entire communities are brokenhearted.
Yet even in this darkness, we hold on to Christ.
The enemies of peace may destroy homes, but they cannot destroy our faith.
They may silence voices, but they cannot silence the Gospel.
They may spread fear, but they cannot separate us from the love of God.
Romans 8:35 asks:
"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?"
The answer is no.
Nothing can separate us from Christ.
But while we pray, we must also speak.
While we trust God, we must also ask difficult questions.
Why are innocent people continually being buried?
Why do communities live in fear?
Why do survivors feel forgotten?
Why does it appear that political campaigns receive more attention than the tears of grieving families?
Our politicians are already busy with campaigns and calculations, yet families are counting their dead.
People are discussing elections while mothers are preparing burial clothes.
Some are planning rallies while communities are planning funerals.
This should break every conscience.
A nation should never become comfortable with the suffering of its people.
The blood of the innocent cries out.
The tears of widows cry out.
The cries of orphans cry out.
And heaven hears every one of them.
To the people of Bokkos, hear me today:
You are not forgotten.
Your pain is not invisible.
Your tears matter.
Your lives matter.
Your children matter.
And your cries have reached the throne of God.
Jesus Himself said in Matthew 5:4:
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."
We may not understand why these tragedies continue, but we know that God sees every grave, every tear, and every broken heart.
Today, I call upon Christians everywhere to pray for Bokkos.
Pray for the wounded.
Pray for the widows.
Pray for the orphans.
Pray for those living in fear.
Pray for peace.
Pray for justice.
Pray that God will heal the land.
And as we pray, let us refuse to become silent.
Let us refuse to become numb to suffering.
Let us refuse to forget those who have lost everything.
To every grieving family, I say: we mourn with you.
To every child who has lost a parent, we mourn with you.
To every widow who sleeps tonight with tears on her pillow, we mourn with you.
To every survivor carrying wounds in body and soul, we stand with you.
Bokkos, our prayers are with you. 😭
May God comfort every grieving heart.
May God heal every wound.
May God protect every vulnerable community.
And may the day come when no family in Plateau State, or anywhere in Nigeria, has to bury loved ones because of violence and hatred.
Until then, we shall pray.
We shall speak.
We shall stand together.
And we shall trust the God who wipes away every tear.
Plateau is well with us.
Nigeria shall know peace.
May the Lord have mercy upon us all.
